After Netflix released a preview trailer of their slated 2022 films, which featured big titles like Knives Out 2 and The Adam Project, fans were also able to catch a glimpse of The Gray Man, the new action thriller from the Russo Brothers starring Ryan Gosling and Evans.

Now taking to Twitter, Evans posted a set photo of his character Lloyd Hansen from the highly anticipated film, revealing the many cuts and bruises his character endured. While not much has been shared from the film other than what was seen in the Netflix preview, Evans did post a picture last May revealing the bruises he sustained on set while filming, hinting at the amount of dedication that goes into making these globe-trotting action films. Now, as Evans grins in this newly posted photo, the cuts and scrapes are hopefully not real this time.

The Gray Man, which is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, centers on Gosling’s Court Gentry, a CIA black ops mercenary who is forced to go on the run after uncovering dark agency secrets. Evans’ unhinged Lloyd Hansen, a former colleague of Gentry, is then forced to capture Gentry, which sets off a global manhunt. The Gray Man, with a budget of $200 million, will be Netflix’s most expensive film to date.

The Russo Brothers are coming off of their Marvel success with big films like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. They’ve previously compared the upcoming film to their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as they strived to take this spy story and tie it into the modern world.

The Russo Brothers are hoping to expand on this universe, as they shared with Deadline back when the project was in early development that they intend to produce many more of these films with Gosling leading the way. The film will also star Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Jessica Henwick, Michael Gandolfini, Dhanush, and Julia Butters. Joe Russo has co-written the film with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo who worked with the Russo Brothers on their Marvel films.

The Gray Man is set to premiere on Netflix in July 2022.
