After starring as the iconic Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy, Bale is now playing the Marvel antagonist Gorr the God Butcher, a tormented being whose hatred towards gods has led him to face Thor. In the comics, Gorr comes from a nameless planet where a lack of water, risk of starvation, earthquakes and other dangers are all very common. Yet, Gorr remains hopeful that the Gods will help his people. After losing his parents at a young age as well as his own family when he is older, Gorr is left to fend for himself, enduring much suffering as a result.

According to The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider, Bale is currently working on reshoots for Thor: Love and Thunder taking place in Manhattan Beach, California. This is perhaps one of the reasons why Marvel Studios hasn’t released a first trailer for the film, even if its theatrical release is only three months away. While many fans often view reshoots as some sort of negative, Marvel Studios reshoots have become much more common. Whether they are for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Eternals, reshoots are a crucial part to the filmmaking process, as they guarantee the final cut of the film is where it needs to be. Eternals director Chloé Zhao claimed them to be ‘a blessing,’ according to The Direct.
This new comes after Waititi’s comments where the director joked about the final cut of Thor: Love and Thunder not being complete until a day before its premiere. Of course, with the amount of time and reshoots Marvel Studios is putting into this film, Thor: Love and Thunder will no doubt turn out to be something truly special. As reshoots continue, fans can expect a first trailer to surface online in the coming months.
Other than focusing on Chris Hemsworth’s titular hero and what will likely be a worthy addition to the MCU with Bale’s villain, Thor: Love and Thunder will also explore the rule of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and showcase Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster (the astrophysicist and ex-lover of Thor who is making her first return since Thor: The Dark World) taking up the mantle of the God of Thunder. Waititi also hopes to delve deeper into Korg’s culture and introduce the Space Sharks alien race.
Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in theaters on July 8, 2022.
